Support for Business
Small and medium businesses are the backbone of our economy—and they’re facing real challenges. Rising costs, shrinking margins, and complex regulations are making it harder to stay afloat, let alone grow.
As your Independent MP for Curtin, I’m committed to supporting business owners with practical solutions that balance fairness for workers with flexibility for employers.
MY PRIORITIES
To help businesses thrive, I’m focused on:
Simplifying award rates to reduce red tape and make compliance easier.
Supporting decarbonisation across industries to future-proof Australian businesses.
Expanding the instant asset write-off to help small businesses invest and grow.
Reforming tax policy to shift the burden from personal income to passive income.
Ensuring industrial relations laws are fair, clear, and workable for both employers and employees.
I support workers’ rights to safe, fair workplaces - but I also believe businesses need the freedom to innovate, grow, and make hiring decisions that support their success.
Delivered
I’ve taken action to support local businesses:
Opposed increased superannuation tax on unrealised gains, which would have hurt small business owners.
Introduced amendments to limit excessive union powers and preserve workplace flexibility.
Extended the instant asset write-off for small businesses to encourage investment.
Spoken out against overly complex IR reforms, including the “Closing the Loopholes” bill, which added unnecessary burdens for employers.
I’ve also developed a free Support for Small Business Guide to help local businesses navigate challenges, access grants, and build resilience.

In detail
Industrial Relations
I am 100% supportive of workers’ rights, and I believe every worker has the right to be in a safe workplace that provides fair remuneration and support.
But I am also supportive of economic competition and the need for business to have the flexibility to innovate and grow and make hiring decisions that enable this. I am genuinely concerned about the increasing complexity of IR laws and how that affects business. IR laws should be simplified as much as possible to help employers do the right thing.
I did not support the Governments industrial relations Closing the Loopholes bill because it appeared to expand the powers of the Fair Work Commission and the unions and reduce flexibility for workers whilst adding complexity for business.
