Hatred has no place in modern Australia
Like all Australians, I am devastated about the terrorist attack at Bondi Beach against the Jewish
community while they were celebrating the first night of Chanukah.
My thoughts are with the families and friends who have lost loved ones. I acknowledge the collective
grief of the Jewish community across Australia and stand with them at this difficult time.
Hatred has no place in modern Australia. I condemn this cowardly attack on innocent people at one
of our most iconic open spaces. Our shared love of celebrating our multicultural society brings us
together as a country and we must not let this evil act change and divide us.
During this attack, our Australian spirit was evident. People rushed to protect and help each other in
the chaos, and we witnessed amazing acts of bravery by our police, first responders and ordinary
people walking by.
Social cohesion is more important than ever, and we must hold this tight. Check in on each other,
especially our Jewish friends, and be kind to each other.
